How to Create a Halloween Tablescape

These Halloween decoration ideas are sure to lift your spirits...

  • Frightening Foundations

Cover your table with your cloth of choice. Gather any placemats, plates, cutlery and napkins you want to use and style them uniformly in front of each chair. Get your DIY on and create place cards with mini pumpkins and a sharpie.

  • Horrifying Heights

Short on table space? Use your ceiling to drape fake cobwebs, witches hats and anything else light and spooky you can find. Feeling extra? Order yourself some floating candles to create a Harry Potter great hall-inspired setting.

  • Creepy Centrepiece

Now the foundations are there, it's all in the finishing touches. More is more when it comes to a Halloween tablescape, so gather any candelabras, candlesticks, pumpkins and skulls you can find and scatter in the centre of the table.

Horror Movie Marathon

What's Halloween without a hair-raising horror, eh? If you're not in the party spirit this year, lock the doors, turn off all the lights and sink your teeth into a horrifying movie marathon. The trick to making this movie night different to any other is all in the ambience, boys and ghouls. Use blankets and duvets to create a devilish den on the floor and scatter Halloween cushions (from yours truly of course) for creepy comforts. Light as many candles as you can find around the house and fill up some cauldrons with popcorn and sweets. Now, Hocus Pocus or Scream? We'll leave you to decide...

Halloween Wreath

Who said DIY Halloween decorations are hard work? Not us. Dig out those old baubles that've been collecting dust for the last three years and let’s get ghouling…
- Grab yourself a grapevine wreath (you can pick one up for around £5) and gather any baubles, ribbons, glitter and glue you have around the house. Psst! On a budget? Unravel an old metal coat hanger and shape into a circle.
- Now for the fun part. Red baubles will need covering, so coat all over in black paint. When dry, roll in PVA glue and sprinkle glitter all over.
- Orange baubles make a great base for pumpkins, so use a small paint brush to handpaint eyes, nose and teeth.
- To break up the black and orange, use a gold spray paint to coat your baubles in seconds.

Top tip: you can also spray leaves and conkers if you're out of baubles. More is more when it comes to fright night, so feel free to weave in any bats, spiders or creepy crafts you can find. Et voila, a homemade Halloween wreath that'll give the neighbours pumpkin to talk about.

No tricks, just treat after treat…

Halloween without sweet treats is like an advent calendar with no chocolate in. Pointless if you ask us. Whether you've decided to host a horror movie marathon or the bloodcurdling bash of the year, the key to any successful soirée is a cauldron bubbling over with eerie-sistible goodies for you and your guests to gobble up.

  • Sickly Sweets

Stock up on as many Halloween sweets as you can get your fangs on. Collect any glass jars, vases or bowls from around your home and fill 'em up. They also double up as edible table decor. Fangtastic.

  • Bloodcurdling Bakes

Not everyone can devour jelly sweets until the ghosts come home. Stock up on big brand bakeware and spooky serveware before dishing up chilling crudités, bogeyman biscuits and ghoulishly gooey brownies. They're sure to be a scream!

  • Spooky Shakes

Forget popcorn, a spooky shake is the horror film snack you never knew you needed. Blend your favourite chocolate bar with milk and ice cream and garnish with a donut-topped straw. We'll provide the ghoulish glass.

  • Candy Carriers

You can't send the kids off trick-or-treating without a freakishly good fabric basket to stash all their treats in now, can you? Not only can you reuse them Halloween after Halloween, but they'll also double up as sweet storage until the big day.

Halloween Makeup

Well, well, well… looks like somebody left their Halloween costume until the last minute and now they’ve ended up on this page after frantically googling ‘Halloween costume ideas’. Don’t fret. No need to put in a graveyard shift and stay up all night making a costume, as there’s nothing that some Halloween makeup or a bit of nail art can’t fix. Last minute who?

  • Feline fine

Give a spooky nod to the big day and recreate a Halloween classic using a makeup bag staple. All hail liquid eye liner. House cat or Catwoman? Accessorise with cat ears for a purrrfect look that'll have you feline fine all night long.

  • Pretty petrifying

Feeling brave? Then why do things by haunted halves. Go all out scare-fest this Halloween with a full face of hair-raising makeup. Black and white face paints are all you need to create a skeletal look that's sure to spook.

  • Enchanting nail art

If the thought of dressing up Heidi Klum style gives you chills, then why not let a themed manicure be your costume instead? Choose from gothic matte textures, blood red paint or skeletal nail art to get you in the spooky spirit.
