Choosing the right rug for your space

Finding ‘the one’ can feel a bit daunting, but it’s actually pretty simple. It’s all about getting the size and material spot on for your lifestyle.

Getting the size right

Size matters. In the living room, aim for a rug that’s big enough for the front legs of your furniture to sit on – it pulls the whole room together. For the dining room, you’ll want something that extends beyond the table, so chairs don’t catch when you pull them out. For the bedroom? A plush rug underfoot is the only way to start the day.

Material matters: high traffic vs. cosy corners

Think about where it’s going. Hallways and kitchens see a lot of action, so durable, low-pile options or flat-weaves are your best friends here. Save the high-pile, shaggy styles for bedrooms and snugs where you can really sink your toes in.

Explore our styles

From the front door to the bedroom floor, we’ve got a style for every spot.

Welcoming door mats

First impressions count. A sturdy door mat is essential for keeping the great outdoors… well, outdoors. Coir mats are brilliant scrapers for muddy boots, while absorbent cotton styles work wonders indoors to trap moisture. Why not double up for maximum protection?

Statement patterned rugs

Want to change the vibe of a room instantly? A patterned rug is your secret weapon. Use it as the anchor for your colour scheme, pulling out accent shades for your cushions and wall art. If you’re going bold on the floor, keep your furniture neutral to let the rug do the talking.

Luxurious sheepskin and faux fur rugs

Nothing says ‘cosy’ quite like a sheepskin rug. Real sheepskin is naturally temperature-regulating (cool in summer, warm in winter) and hypoallergenic while faux fur offers that same luxe look and softness. Don’t just leave them on the floor – they look incredible draped over an armchair or sofa for added texture.

Styling and care tips

Once you’ve got your new rug home, here’s how to make it look its best and last for years.

Get the layered look

Feeling creative? Try layering. Pop a smaller, decorative rug (like a sheepskin or a vintage-style piece) over a larger, neutral jute or sisal rug. It adds instant depth, texture and a designer touch to any room.

Making your rug last

A little love goes a long way. Regular vacuuming is key, but be gentle with fringes. For sheepskins, a good shake outside works wonders to fluff up the fibres. Spot clean spills immediately and check the label for professional cleaning advice when it needs a deeper refresh.

Complete your cosy home

Now you’ve sorted the floors, why not finish the look? Add some throws and blankets for extra warmth or explore our decorative accessories to tie it all together. Don’t forget the bathroom – our bath mats are just as stylish.
