Prep for the piste

First-timer? Fret not. Here’s what to look out for before you head for the mountains.

Outerwear

1. Look out for water-resistant and ventilation zips
2. Fully taped seams: fully waterproof. Critically taped seams: only the seams prone to water ingression have been taped
3. Snow skirt: an extra piece of material with elasticated edge and snaps to prevent snow from entering. Can be fixed or detachable
4. Look out for goggle pockets and a small pocket on the sleeve for your lift pass

Trousers

1. Look out for a rib feature or braces which keep snow out (handy if you fall)
2. A stretchy, high-performance fabric makes ski trousers extra comfortable
3. Snow gaiters ensure snow doesn’t get inside your trousers or boots
4. You’re going to get hot when on the move, so venting zips are desirable
