From Dundee down to Watford, Lorraine has come a long way.
My name is Lorraine, and I'm an assistant planner. I help the company meet financial goals. This involves working closely with my planning manager and the Buying team to ensure that we've got the buying plan in the correct place. I also assist with the management of an Allocation Analyst team to ensure we consistently offer a great and exciting mix to our customers in all of our stores.
When I started with TK Maxx, I was working at the Dundee store as a store associate for four hours a week - that's while I was still at university. As part of my uni course I had to do a placement, so I enquired at the home office and I got a job as an administrator for six months. From there I stayed with the company and I've now been in Watford for three years.
For my job, the training is really good - when you first join, you go on a four week course and there's a lot of support available. In addition to that, there's plenty of ongoing training, from working on computers to formulating spreadsheets. It's also possible to take training that helps you train others as well.
I have to be quite analytical, as there's a lot of information I have to sift through so I can keep tabs on what's doing well and meeting sales potential. Being a good team player is also important - but equally crucial is the ability to work on your own. You never know what's going to happen from one day to the next - and that's what makes TK Maxx a great place to work really.
