Buying

There aren't many buying roles with the kind of freedom that TJX Europe offers. Whereas other retailers send their buyers out on buying trips on a routine seasonal basis, our opportunistic buying strategy makes sure our buyers are out in the market every week.

The advantage of this, both in Europe and beyond is clear - just ask the people who regularly buy from our stores. They're able to enjoy famous label and best quality fashion and homeware for a fraction of the usual retail price.

Buyers tend to buy close to need meaning much better decisions around trends, fashion and seasonal changes. This approach always allows our Buyers to negotiate the best price and to pass the savings back to the customer.

As one of our buyers, you'll find yourself as an artful entrepreneur. It's an exciting opportunity to really get the most out of your creativity and fashion knowledge - after all, you'll be the one deciding what you think the next big sellers flying out of our stores will be. Put simply, yours will be a buying role in its purest sense. You make the decisions.

Your main responsibility will be the selection, purchase and subsequent delivery of merchandise that meets our expectations of quality, fashion, price and brand. Many of your decisions will be influenced and informed by analysis of the weekly reports. This constant reviewing will allow you to identify sales trends, best sellers and potential markdowns, helping you to develop relevant merchandise strategies and assortments.

Making frequent trips to domestic and foreign markets will allow you to establish great relationships with new and existing vendors. You'll also need to keep your finger on the pulse of marketplace conditions, especially with regards to pricing, resources and fashion, and be able to use your knowledge to react quickly to changes.

Another important part of your role will involve visiting our stores and the competition to study and critique merchandise, mix, price points and new labels.

To apply for one of our unique buying positions, you'll need to have proven relevant experience within a fast moving retail environment, as well as excellent negotiation skills and strong commercial acumen. The ability to produce high quality work at speed will be essential, as will a talent for balancing instinctive, on-the-spot decisions with a calculated understanding of store requirements and profit margins. You'll also need to be prepared to travel extensively.

Global Sourcing

The Global Sourcing & Procurement team actively supports TJX's businesses by working closely with stakeholders to make certain the "best value" is obtained from our worldwide non-merchandise spend. It is GS&P's responsibility to effectively execute global sourcing initiatives and employ supply chain best practices. With that in mind, they source and evaluate suppliers, stay abreast of market trends and negotiate contracts that add value and maximize savings for TJX.

Distribution Services

Distribution Services is responsible for coordinating and maintaining a continuous flow of goods from our vendors to our stores. Working closely with colleagues in Buying and Merchandising, we provide support to our vendors to prioritise and organise the on-time collection of goods. We plan and allocate our goods to our network of Processing Centres across Europe who prepare them for sale in stores. We then oversee the delivery of fresh product to stores on a daily basis. Given the huge volume of products and brands we sell, Distribution Services strives to be a team of high-level analytical expertise with a real commitment to pace, quality and customer service.

European Trading Team

The European Trading Team supports and partners the strategic development of the three trading pillars - Buying, Supply Chain and Merchandising. Key responsibilities include vendor development, operational support for the Buying organisation as well as facilitating the development, delivery and support of European Buying & Merchandising systems. The team will help to consolidate learnings across the business, seek out best practices and work in a European capacity across the business to ensure we achieve our growth aspirations.

IT

The TJX Europe IT team are at the heart of the TJX Europe business. As well as nurturing our existing IT landscape, in equal measure, the TJX Europe IT team endeavour to deliver pioneering IT solutions. They provide our businesses with faster connectivity, simplified processes, new capabilities and more reliable services. From initial concept through to system development, from implementation through to training and support, they drive operational excellence and give our business the right tools to enable the creation of value for our customers.

Finance

As a large international business, the finance team plays an incredibly important part in our operations, enabling the business to function efficiently and effectively.
In addition to delivering our core responsibility of providing financial control and financial understanding on which key decisions are based, Finance covers all aspects of the business.
Day to day, this means we're involved in things like; Investment appraisals for new commercial opportunities; Optimising inventory and costs for our Supply chain and Support functions; Driving profitable sales in one of our Commercial Finance departments; and influencing strategic planning within Business Planning & Analysis. All of which play a key role in the smooth running of our business.

Store Operations

The aim of Store Operations is to manage store requests from throughout the business. These can range from financial control and communication needs through to merchandising and layout queries.

Risk Management

Risk Management is about protecting TJX Europe revenue, assets and profits. As well as complying with Trading Standards requirements and maintaining Health & Safety performance, a particular emphasis is placed on Loss Prevention. Their responsibilities cover fraud, theft and security systems.

Marketing

From customer research to producing TV ads, this department comprises a cool in-house creative team and innovative marketing team that work together to bring our brand to life in every way imaginable. They even manage to lead our business into raising millions of pounds for our favourite charities - Comic Relief, Cancer Research, The Woodland Trust and NCH.

HR

Finding and keeping great people is as important to our success as having great products on the shelves and racks. And that's where the HR team comes into the picture. Partnering with business leaders to drive strategies that support attraction, retention and on-going development, our HR people have a vital role to play in keeping us one step ahead of the rest. Our strategies incorporate our people expertise across all the European markets in which we operate and ensure we differentiate our activity where we need to, whether it's about adjusting our rewards package, our talent acquisition plans or the way we train and develop people to bring out the best in them.

Property & Store Development

The Property team are responsible for the management of our property portfolio. That means they facilitate the acquisition, expansions, and relocation of existing stores - in other words, they help more people enjoy the TJX Europe experience. The Store Development team are essential to this, as it's their job to oversee the outfitting of our stores, from the new design to modernisation programmes.

E-commerce

In May 2009 TJX Europe launched its transactional website, starting with selling handbags, and is now a dual branded website with a wide selection of TK Maxx and HomeSense products. The longer term plan is develop a pan European website with European deliveries. The E-Commerce team is rapidly evolving with a range of opportunities at all levels from marketing and merchandising to website design/development, logistics and operations.
