Our Carbon Footprint
We've calculated our carbon footprint to measure the amount of carbon emissions we release, and we've identified ways to help us reduce these, including new measures to help us reduce both our energy consumption and our water.
On the Road to a Greener Business
We make daily deliveries to our stores and it’s essential that our fleet of trucks is as efficient and environmentally responsible as possible. We’re working hard on innovative solutions to make our delivery process as green as it can be and here are just some of the ways we’re doing this already.
Electric Trucks
We’re proud to own Europe’s largest zero emissions truck. This electrically powered delivery van is aerodynamically designed and has one of the greatest ranges of any commercial electric vehicle in the UK. We aim to introduce ten more - so look out for one near you soon.
Pods
We helped develop a special air deflector for the front of our double decker trailer trucks. This aerodynamically-shaped device reduces wind resistance, which helps cut fuel consumption and lower carbon emissions.
We’ve been among the first to get these innovative and technologically advanced devices on the road. It’s predicted that they’ll reduce carbon emissions by an estimated 10%.
Telematics/driver training
To help us manage delivery routes more efficiently er offer driver education and training and invest in technologies like telematics.
Green clause
Our agreement with DHL (who operate our store delivery trucks) has a green clause that commits both ourselves and DHL to achieving key environmental and social responsibility goals.
In partnership with DHL we are also operating our online business through a 100% carbon neutral processing centre in Yorkshire.
Route sharing with other retailers
We’ve partnered with fellow retailers Boots and Debenhams to share capacity on some of our delivery routes. This relatively new and rather groundbreaking approach eliminates the need for multiple parallel trips to the same location, helping us make even more carbon savings.
